Why does St. Augustine Church need this ministry?

Acolytes help create a sense of peaceful reverence for the congregation as they assist the Clergy.  Serving as an Acolyte is an opportunity to participate in the Church's liturgies in a meaningful way.

 

What do team members do?

  • Prepare the Church for worship, lighting candles, etc.

  • Know the responsibilities of each position (crucifer, torch bearer, Gospel bearer)

  • Maintain a neat appearance; vestments are required

  • Help lead congregation in worship

Suggested Skills:

  • Understand the elements of the worship service in order to perform duties at the appropriate time

  • Be vested at least 20 minutes ahead of service

  • Have the ability to follow directions and remember procedures with dignity and respect

Time Required:

  • At least 90 minutes when assigned, including service and arrival time

  • Training time
