Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Leader: Jack Buffington

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after the supper, he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."

Luke 22: 19-20

Why does St. Augustine Church need this ministry?

Lay Eucharistic Ministers help create a sense of dignity and spiritual meaning to the Holy Eucharist service by assisting the Priests in dispensing the bread and the wine (the body and blood of Christ).

What do team members do?

  • Assist in all Holy Eucharist services as needed by offering the chalice and paten

  • Serve at all services as assigned or arrange for a qualified substitute

  • Coordinate with the Priests, acolytes and scheduler

Suggested Skills:

  • Willingness to complete training

  • Careful attention to detail

Time required:

  • Training sessions as needed

  • Presence at Communion services as assigned

Will I work alone or as part of a team?

  • Several Lay Eucharistic Ministers participate in each service
