Lectors
Ministry Leader: Joan Cavanagh

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide, we might have hope.

Romans 15:4

Why does St. Augustine Church need this ministry?

Being a Lector provides an opportunity for lay people to serve by participating in worship services.

What do team members do?

  • Lectors proclaim the word of God

  • One Lector reads the First Lesson (normally a reading from the Old Testament) and the Psalms for the day

  • The second Lector reads the Second Lesson (normally a reading from the New Testament) and the Prayers of the People

Suggested Skills:

  • A good public speaking voice

  • Punctuality: follow the assignment schedule

Time required:

  • Preparation time: read lesson out loud before Church service

  • Reading during the service

  • Occasional meetings

Will I work alone or as part of a team?

  • Each Lector is responsible for his/her assigned readings.

  • The task is performed alone, but there are several Lectors on the team to give support
