Who We Are

History & Mission

The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ, in 109 dioceses and regional areas in 17 nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

The mission of the church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer’s catechism (p. 855), is "to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ."

Our Spirituality

Episcopalians generally recognize three aspects of our spirituality:

Scripture
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the Word of God and to contain all things necessary for salvation. The Bible is an integral part of our worship, with readings and preaching taken from the Bible helping us to weave its teachings into our everyday lives.

Tradition
We believe that we are part of a living faith that spans thousands of years. The heart of our tradition is expressed through the Bible, the Creeds (ancient expressions of faith that continue to shape our faith today), the Seven Sacraments, and the call to ministry passed on by Christ to the Church.

Reason
Each one of us possesses the God-given gift of making decisions rooted in our experience of how to use tradition and Scripture in our daily living. We do not rush to easy answers, but celebrate questions and delight in the process of discovery.

St. Augustine of Canterbury

Our church was founded in 1992 and dedicated in the name of Augustine of Canterbury, a 7th century monk who is remembered as one of the founders of the Church of England. His legacy is one of building relationships and working through differences toward unity, a legacy we try to live into as we make our community a safe place for people seeking God.

After many years of meeting in temporary spaces, including a living room, a warehouse, a storefront, and a school, we finally built our permanent home at 1800 Wildcat Boulevard in 2013. When you enter our space, you will notice a design so open that there is a direct line of sight from the kitchen sink to the altar--we believe in openness and inclusion!

Our Mission

With God’s help, we strive to uphold the commitments we make in our Baptismal Covenant, to love God and our neighbors.

How to become a member

Are you already an Episcopalian? You can transfer your letter of membership. Just contact our Parish Administrator!

Have you been baptized? Baptism is the sacrament that brings us into the new life of Christ. We would love to baptize you if you have not been already.

Have you made an adult commitment to faith? If you have never made an adult commitment to faith, you can do so through the sacrament of confirmation. If you have made an adult commitment to faith in another tradition, you can be received into The Episcopal Church. Contact our clergy to find out more about how to be confirmed or received.

Have you made a pledge? Money isn't all there is to being a member of the Church. The gift of your time and presence is reason enough for us to give thanks. If you consider yourself a part of our community, please consider making an annual pledge, and partner with us in supporting the many valuable ministries of our community. For your convenience, you can even setup automatic contributions through our online giving portal
