Salary

Part-time position with a salary of $17,000/year 

Job Description

We are seeking a Director of Music who is well versed in a variety of musical genres to lead our congregation and volunteer choir. We seek a creative, talented, flexible, collaborative, enthusiastic Minister of Music. We are open to trying new music to enrich our worship. 

General Responsibilities:

  • Direct and Rehearse choir. 

    1. Empower, train, and encourage the choir to sing together harmoniously.

    2. Ability to lead a diverse team with compassion, integrity, and humility.

    3. Visionary mindset to inspire others for a common goal. 

  • Select music

    1. Familiarity with or willingness to learn liturgy and musical tradition in the Episcopal Church. 

    2. Choose hymns, songs, and music with the Rector’s approval for each service. 

    3. Attend monthly Worship Committee meetings.

  • Play at special services

    1. Plan and play special services such as Animal Memorial Service, Christmas Eve, Blue Christmas, Easter service, and Holy Week services. 

    2. Play at funerals and weddings as available. (These include honoraria from families.)

  • Create a vital musical environment

    1. Educate congregation about liturgical music and music history. 

    2. Recruit and orient new choir members.

    3. Arrange for supply musician when absent. 


Knowledge/Skills/Special Requirements

  • Must be able to read and teach music.

  • Must be skilled in piano and keyboard playing with both manual and electronic instruments. 

  • Strong organizational skills.

Employment Parameters

  • 8 hours/ week

  • Hours Distributions- 

2 hours- Worship Service

2 hours- Choir rehearsal

2 hours- Personal rehearsal

2 hours- Music selection/ organization

  • $40/ hour

  • Extra hours for special services

  • 4 paid Sundays of vacation a year

  • Reports to the Rector

  • No other paid benefits

  • Candidates with excellent musical training who are new to a church context are encouraged to apply and will be trained by the Rector. 

  • Please note that all Church staff are required to complete the mandatory 

Keeping God’s People Safe training at the start of employment and be required to maintain current certification as a condition of continued employment.
