Building Bridges of Love, Acceptance, and Understanding

Deacon’s Corner

Building Bridges of Love, Acceptance, and Understanding

Summary: Safe Zone Training, Saturday, June 28th, 9am to 12pm. Sign up if possible; sheet is in Canterbury Hall.

On Saturday the 28th, my co-leader, Kenny Pierce, and I will be facilitating a workshop designed to help us create a safer space for our LGBTQ+ members. We are piloting the training for the diocese, and Kenny and I both like to have fun, so I think it will be both enlightening and enjoyable. We will be explaining why words and pronouns are important and meaningful.

We’ll cover the vocabulary that is often used in the context of “queer” Our goal is to help create a respect-filled atmosphere where all people, including “transgender” and “non-binary” folks are embraced whole-heartedly without hesitation or fear of offending.

We’ll throw in a bit of history about what it has meant to be homosexual in the church throughout the centuries, and why these people have been included and excluded, repeatedly, depending on the time and place. Come learn with us and share your experiences, too. These children of God are very vulnerable to political persecution and need neighbors to become allies.

We welcome gay, straight, non-binary and any other people with loving hearts who want to help build bridges.
