Gratitude Changes Everything

2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us.

Summary Gratitude is not simply a response to God's gifts. It is the soil from which generosity naturally grows.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As I have reflected on our life together this week, I have been thinking about gratitude. We often talk about giving as something we ought to do.

We speak about generosity as a responsibility or a spiritual discipline. While there is truth in that, I think Scripture points us to something even deeper.

Gratitude comes first.

When I truly recognize the goodness that has surrounded my life, generosity becomes much more natural. I begin to notice the people who have loved me, encouraged me, forgiven me, and walked beside me. I remember the beauty of creation, the laughter of friends, the comfort of prayer, and the grace that has carried me through difficult seasons. None of these things were earned. They were gifts.

That kind of gratitude changes my heart.

I do not give because God is keeping score. I do not give because I am trying to earn God's favor. God's love has already been freely given. Instead, I give because gratitude has opened my hands. When I recognize how deeply blessed I have been, I naturally want to become part of God's blessing for someone else.

This is true of our time, our compassion, our forgiveness, and our financial generosity. Giving becomes less about obligation and more about participation. We join God in the ongoing work of healing, feeding, welcoming, and restoring the world.

I have discovered that grateful people are rarely the ones asking, "How little can I give?" Instead, they ask, "How can I share what has already been entrusted to me?"

May we become people whose lives are rooted in gratitude. As our gratitude grows, so will our generosity. And through that generosity, others will encounter the love of God in tangible ways.

Gratefully,

Pastor Anny+

Prayer Generous God, open my eyes to the gifts that surround my life each day. Fill my heart with gratitude so that my generosity may become a joyful expression of your love. Amen.
