A Safe Place to Seek God: The Heart of St. Augustine
Summary: St. Augustine is a safe, joyful, and thoughtful spiritual home for anyone seeking God through Jesus Christ, grounded in ancient tradition and open to the present moment.
One of the most common questions I get as a priest is this: “What kind of church is St. Augustine?”
And I love to answer it.
St. Augustine is a vibrant, inclusive, and Spirit-filled community where people from all backgrounds can explore faith, encounter Jesus, and grow in love.
We’re a joyful church rooted in the Episcopal tradition, passionate about justice, prayer, and spiritual practice. Our mission is simple and sincere: to be a safe place for people seeking God. We are a place of open hearts, thoughtful questions, and authentic relationships. Whether you’re firm in your beliefs or full of questions, there’s room for you here.
When people ask about the Episcopal Church, I describe it this way:
We are Christian centered on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are Protestant and Catholic, with ancient roots and a living faith. We value Scripture, tradition, and reason, holding them in balance. Our worship is beautiful and sacred, but never stuffy. We pray deeply, love boldly, and leave space for mystery. We don’t all believe the same things—but we walk together in love.
St. Augustine is a joyful, open-hearted church where ancient faith meets real life—a place to belong, to grow, and to live out God’s love in the world.
If you’ve been longing for a spiritual home where you can be yourself and seek God honestly—you just may have found it.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Anny+
The Rev. Dr. Anny Genato+
Rector
St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church
