Luke 23:34 Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.

Summary: Jesus did not die to satisfy God’s anger, but to reveal a love that refuses to abandon us, even in our worst moments.
Dear Friends in Christ,
Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?
It is one of the most important questions we can ask, and one that has been answered in many ways over the centuries. Some have been taught that Jesus died because God needed to be satisfied or appeased. But when I look at Jesus, I do not see someone saving us from God. I see someone revealing who God has always been.
On the cross, Jesus does not condemn. He forgives. On the cross, Jesus does not turn away. He stays. On the cross, Jesus does not respond with violence. He absorbs it and transforms it.
The cross shows us what happens when perfect love meets a world that does not yet know how to receive it.
Jesus did not have to die because God demanded it. Jesus died because love is willing to go to the very depths of human suffering and not let go. Even when faced with betrayal, injustice, and cruelty, Jesus remains rooted in compassion. He exposes the systems of harm that we participate in, and at the same time, he refuses to stop loving us.
The cross is not about God needing something from us. It is about God giving everything to us.
And here is the invitation. If this is who God is, then we are called to live this way too. We are invited to be people who forgive when it is hard, who stay present when it would be easier to walk away, and who choose love even when the world tells us not to.
The cross is not the end of the story. It is the clearest picture of love we have ever seen.
And that love is already at work in you.
With grace and hope,
