Welcome to the Season of Creation

Summary: Our Hope: Creation Will Find Peace When Justice Is Restored

During the Season of Creation, Christians around the world unite to celebrate our love for the earth. It is a time to pray and respond to the cry of the Earth: God’s Creation and our common home. The season begins on Sept. 1^st and concludes on the feast of St. Francis, Oct. 4^th.

This year’s theme is Peace in the Garden. Throughout history, human activities have contributed to the destruction of Creation. Today, more than ever, some human activities take the form of a war against Creation. Our impact has expanded from local to global, manifesting in unsustainable lifestyles, excessive consumption, lasting pollution, and a throwaway culture.

Saint Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures calls the Earth our sister

and mother. How can Mother Earth nurture us if we fail to contemplate,

learn from, and love her? Ignoring our interconnectedness undermines this vital relationship.
